New Orleans jazz and food come together - Radio Sausalito's 'Jazz Kitchen' really cooks

A smooth voice booms: "Artichokes have been grown and enjoyed in New Orleans since the 1750s. The French brought them there. It was Catherine de Medici who introduced France to artichokes -- she brought them from Tuscany in the early 1500s when she married Henry II, the king of France." Meanwhile, Jessie Hill's "Ooh Poo Pah Doo Part 2" plays in the background. "The pleasure Catherine took in consuming vast quantities of artichokes was considered scandalous. The thorny green thistle buds were widely regarded as aphrodisiacs and were reserved for men only." New Orleans is a serious food town. It is also the birthplace of jazz. So it is only fitting that New Orleans native Robert LaCour Greenberg host Radio Sausalito's (100 FM) "Jazz Kitchen," a 10-minute food and jazz program that airs Sundays and Mondays at 11:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
