Host John Flavin present facts to assist his
listeners in reaching a decision as to whether to trust the Yes supporters of
Measure D. He reviews the quality of the report that is the sole basis for
Measure D, the admission by the Yes folks that there is a less expensive option
than a standalone fire department when Measure D does not pass and finally the
questionable circumstances surrounding the financing of the public safety
buildings. Sausalito taxpayers are paying a $10 million premium for this odd
financing structure and its champions are the same people supporting Yes on
Measure D.

Host John Flavin, an opponent of Measure D,
reviews the allegations, numbers and impacts of the proposed annexation of our
fire department by the Southern Marin Fire District. He is opposed to the
Measure because it hands the control over the level of emergency service and its
cost to an outsider, options were not considered and the annexation cannot be
reversed if we are unhappy with it.

Host John Flavin interviews Ray Gergus,
chairman of the Sausalito Sustainability Commission, and Greg Christie of Bay
Cities Refuse Services regarding the why and how's of Sausalito's new composting

Host John Flavin reviews the pro's and con's
of the LA Times publishing the controversial pictures of the US servicemen
standing by the corpses of Afghani insurgents and whether the benefit was worth
the costs. He also updates you regarding the latest "Double Nickel" program
under the Housing element to reduce greenhouse gasses.

Host John Flavin compares the response of
Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to that of Joplin, Missouri, after devastating tornadoes
ripped through the cities. Tuscaloosa took the opportunity to hire consultants
to devise a state-of-the-art urban plan, imposed construction moratoriums until
the plan was completed and approved, applied strict zoning and building codes
and now awaits the necessary federal funding to implement the plan. Joplin on
the other hand resorted to its citizens and businesses for advice, relaxed
zoning and code enforcement and funded the work locally. Which town economy is
thriving and which one is floundering?

Host John Flavin reveals the "numbers games"
being played at the Sausalito City Hall, the regional Association of Bay Area
Governments and the County and State pension funds. This is no time for
games!

- March 31, 2012
Host John Flavin reviews a number of ideas
for generating badly needed public revenue for Southern Marin. He gives kudos
to those who generated the ferry reservation system, allowing tourists to spend
more time in local shops and restaurants. He then describes several
off-the-wall ideas for generating public revenue, ranging from allowing visitors
for a fee to punch bags shaped like the blue parking pylons in the municipal
lots to substituting dunk tanks for podium chairs at all public boards,
commissions and councils and allowing irate residents and applicants to pay for
chances to dunk the offending politicians. He finishes the show by requesting
more revenue generating ideas from his listeners.

Mon - March 19, 2012
Host John Flavin introduces listeners to the
Marin Communities Coalition for Local Control, a group formed to level the
playing field relative to the state, regional and county authorities taking aim
at our county. John views this organization as an antidote for the "poweritis"
affliction that strikes many politicians and bureaucrats. Those involved in the
recent Housing Element battle in Sausalito know well the difficulties in
challenging state and regional authorities and should applaud and support the
Marin Communities Coalition.

Host John Flavin defines "poweritis" as the
affliction striking the vast majority of politicians. The disease causes them
to push problems down the road rather than confronting them on the theory the
voters would rather not know. John suggests ways you can avoid the collateral
damage resulting from poweritis.

Tue - March 6, 2012
Host John Flavin is joined in the studio by
Larry Mindel, local resident and owner of the Poggio restaurant, for a lively
conversation about living and owning a business in Sausalito, about what it
takes to make a restaurant successful and about Larry's new restaurant, Copita,
arriving soon on Bridgeway. Larry describes the cuisine of his new restaurant
as "New World Mexican" with an emphasis on fresh. He concludes the interview
with some thoughts on the impact of the America's Cup events on Sausalito and
how a business owner should plan for the future.

Sun - March 4, 2012
Host John Flavin points out early signs of a
trend towards pushing back against state and regional bureaucracies. He
highlights Dick Spotswood's column on Palo Alto's challenge to the housing need
projections done by the Association of Bay Area Governments and the Wall Street
Journal's assessment of the pension battle in San Jose. He finishes with an
update on the fire annexation ballot, questioning the decision by the majority
of the Sausalito City Council to rush the issue to vote in June when the voters
have asked for a transparent and independent analysis.

Sat
- February 25, 2012
Host John Flavin emphasizes that every vote
counts by reviewing the 95 vote margin that put the fire annexation issue back
on the public ballot and the single vote margin at the City Council that took
away the public vote in the first place. Was the signature count on the
petition the equivalent of a "no-confidence" vote for City Hall? Listen to the
show.

Host John Flavin laments the rampant
overregulation at the federal, state and local levels. He provides examples of
when such regulation goes wrong and what it costs in California alone to comply.
He suggest legislators at all levels go play golf and stop making new
laws.

Host John Flavin warns that the deadline for
signing the petition to put to a public vote the annexation of the Sausalito
Fire Department by the Southern Marin Fire District is Monday, February 13, at
6:30 pm at the parking lot behind the Sausalito City Hall. John reviews what
will happen if there are not sufficient signatures and what will happen if there
are. The dire consequences are exaggerated and the results would be independent
reviews of the fire operations options and of the financial terms of each
option. John does express concern that the firefighter political action
committee has taken such a large role in this municipal matter, spending large
sums on full page ads, multi-colored brochures, layers of flyers and banners on
our streets. He asks if the deal is so good, why the need for this public
relations barrage? He advises his listeners who have yet to decide whether
annexation should go to a public vote that it is time to "fish or cut
bait".

Sun - February 5, 2012
Host John Flavin shares his puzzlement over
the behavior of his federal, state and local governments and wonders who has
kidnapped them. The Obama Administration's new policy requiring the Catholic
Church to provide employee health insurance coverage on areas fundamentally
against the Church's fundamental beliefs, Governor Brown's blind siding of the
unions on pension reform and the local fire department annexation controversy
all cause John to wonder who is running the farm. His conversation with a local
fireman has provided a possible solution to ransoming our
government.

Host John Flavin wonders out loud what
Stephen Colbert would say about current issues in Southern Marin politics. The
Colbert Report would likely have a field day with the Fire Department Annexation
and the Housing Element. Hear why John believes Colbert's "Word of the Day" for
the show would be "Mayor-or".

Sun - January 22, 2012
Host John Flavin explains why he is so
passionate about placing the fire annexation on the public ballot. He cites the
annexation's increased pension and retiree health care liabilities for Sausalito
residents. He says now is not the time to be increasing such exposures and
points to Governor Brown and the Marin Council of Mayors and Council members for
support. He then illustrates the impact of not addressing pension issues on
both entities and employees by describing the current bankruptcy of the Eastman
Kodak Company. He warns not addressing the issue now will present an ugly
dilemma in the not too distant future.

Sun - January 15, 2012
Host John Flavin describes how Dr Martin
Luther King, Jr, used his belief in non-violence in 1964 and 1965 to accomplish
for civil rights what even President Lyndon Johnson thought was impossible.
John shares how some recent boorish behavior in Sausalito by petition blockers
serves as a reminder that it is often difficult to turn the other cheek but Dr
King's momentous accomplishments stand as evidence that nonviolence is the best
way to proceed.

Host John Flavin reviews the draft Housing
Element...from a developer's viewpoint. He finds many provisions that will make
developers happy but not necessarily residents and taxpayers. He strongly urges
Sausalito residents to make their views known on the subject to the Housing
Element Committee, the City Manager or the City Council, which will ultimately
approve the Element.
